Board games and scenario boards

Either commercially produced or adapted versions can provide a focus to explore issues. Games can introduce both random and selected outcomes, again allowing opportunities to gain a wider understanding. Scenario boards or symbol boards with potential key symbols or pictures can enable students to think about or select sequences of events and their possible consequences. Games can help to reinforce messages of active citizenship. For example, a board game with a focus on waste was developed by the Institute for Citizenship (2002) project, with gains around the board being given for thoughtful disposal or recycling of waste.
